Mark Driscoll the most judged pastor in the world.

Ok firstly I really don’t agree with the guy’s teaching, I don’t understand it, I find it crude and objectionable. However the level of judgement levelled at this guy is quite incredible.

I struggled to actually find out what everyone was complaining about, then after some searching I came across a demonstration of judgement and accusation which shocked me.

Now wether it’s true or not I don’t know, let’s have a look at a couple of scriptures.

Matthew 7:1-3

Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again. And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

So let’s say Mark IS doing wrong things, how should it be dealt with?

Matthew 18

15“If your brother or sisterb sins,c go and point out their fault, just between the two of you. If they listen to you, you have won them over. 16But if they will not listen, take one or two others along, so that ‘every matter may be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.’d 17If they still refuse to listen, tell it to the church; and if they refuse to listen even to the church, treat them as you would a pagan or a tax collector.

It says nothing about building websites on the internet? Or posting on Facebook? and I love the twist at the end. Matthew was a tax collector. How do you treat pagan’s or tax collectors?

You love them.

So in fact the correct method here is for his immediate church to deal with this, not broadcast accusations over the internet, Facebook or twitter. However, in our modern technological age we do have to consider the fact that things have a far bigger reach, you can publish a blog post and it goes round the world.

However it is the job of each one of us to discern FOR OURSELVES what is right and wrong, accept what is good and  reject what is wrong. As an aside one of the problems with being a gay christian is you have to put up with idiots who just take what they are taught by “Anti-gay pastor bob” and then blow it up out of all proportion rathe than correctly evaluating scripture with humility, remembering that none of us know everything about scripture.

That is the WHOLE REASON not to judge but to love, because actually God knows that we don’t know really about the culture and thinking behind the bible. We MUST leave the judgement of a person to him. Protecting and loving each other within context. But producing an “Anti Mark Driscoll” website is just, in my view over the top.

How about producing a website with “101 encouragements from the Bible?” or “Why you should not put yourself down?”

On another topic, my daughters are love “My Little Pony”, I have discovered this whole culture of “Bronies”, older people who also love MLP. It does seem strange until you actually meet some of them and you realise the ethics and ideals behind MLP are actually, in essence Christian. Love and friendship, serving one another, allowing each other to excel in who we are.

Watch a couple of episodes if you can bear it. I’m not sure friendship is actually magic, but it is powerful.

A lot of Christian leaders, including Mark Driscoll bless him, really really need a good friend. Heck, don’t we all.
