Freedom from pain.

Toothache.

I’ve had toothache for months. I’ve been trapped because of something that happened in my past with a dentist. Today I went to the dentist. I was nervous which made me feel pathetic. But I went in there and in half an hour she had pulled two teeth. The pain was gone.

It occurred to me that life is like that. Sometimes we can be trapped by fear, we can be held back by one thing someone said 20 years ago. We can miss out on God’s best for us because in a moment someone padlocked us over a particular thing. It could be love, it could be anything.

Take a moment.

Write down on some paper all those words that have been said to you that have padlocked you. Look at them. How pathetic they look but how they have controlled you.

Take them to the dentist. Understand that YOU are wonderful and special and those words that locked you up can be “loosed” and you can be free again.

For the gay community the “God hates fags” words often ring in our ears, the endless put downs by religious zealots unaware that by putting us down they deny the very love to us that Christ himself pours like an endless jug.

They don’t understand that by denying us the love of Christ, they are denying their own love from God. Jesus said in the parable of the sheep and goats that “what you did to the least of these, you did it to me”.

Be free, be loved, be whole.
